How It All Started
During the pandemic, amid the chaos and anxiety of the unknown virus, many househelps lost their jobs abruptly and without notice. This sudden loss hit especially hard for families where these women were the sole breadwinners, living paycheck to paycheck. With no one willing to hire them, they found themselves in desperate need of help and support. These women were hardworking and eager to work, but opportunities were scarce. Even now, after the pandemic, these women crave a sense of independence but find few avenues to achieve it.
Bano Kaabil is a NPO that's aims to uplift underprivileged woman through education and creativity. Our journey began with a simple idea – to empower the women in the slums of Mumbai by teaching them a creative skill like macramé or punch needling to help them generate passive income which would benefit them and their families. Bano Kaabil works with these women artisans and is a sustainable brand that stands for quality and creativity. Founded by Babitha Karkera, a woman with a vision, our brand embodies the essence of empowerment, self-sustainment, and community upliftment. We are not just a brand; we are a movement that empowers women to transform their lives through artistry and craftsmanship.
